Using the collective WE to outline a situation may have a contradictory effect: On one hand the WE talks of community – no human being is alone, the collective WE can encourage solidarity. On the other hand WE can efface individuality and uniqueness, so that each person becomes an anonymous part of the community. It is impossible to hear who is talking and thus alternative voices get suppressed.
